Before exam week started on 2/9, I met up with two of my closest friends to spend some time together. We decided to meet in Hongdae to visit a cafe with a Japanese kissaten vibe.
친한 2명의 친구들과 학교 시험주가 다가오기 전에 만나서 함께 시간을 보내기로 했습니다. 일본 킷사텐 감성의 카페를 방문하기 위해 홍대에서 만나게 되었습니다.

Cafe Del Mundo, located in between Hongdae and Hapjeong, is a Japanese kissaten-style cafe. “Kissaten” refers to the traditional Japanese cafes, known for the calm, nostalgic atmosphere where people quietly enjoy coffee or tea with light meals and desserts. My favorite part about “kissaten” is that it's less centered in trends or being trendy and more about spending time comfortably with your people.
After some thought, we ordered a variety of desserts: strawberry cream parfait, which is a winter season dessert of this cafe, pudding à la mode, milk tea, and mofle anmitsu. Out of all these scrumptious desserts, mofle anmitsu was the most memorable one as it was really unique in my opinion. It's a dessert made with mochi grilled like a waffle, topped with vanilla ice cream, brown sugar syrup, red bean paste, and different toppings, mainly nuts.
As someone who genuinely enjoys Japanese culture, this place was especially meaningful, considering how well it captured the Japanese atmosphere. I feel like it's really rare to find cafes in Korea that express such kissaten-style so naturally. The desserts were great, but what made it even better was being there with my friends who shared similar interests.
카페 델문도는 홍대와 합정 사이에 위치해 있는 일본 킷사텐 감성의 카페입니다. “킷사텐”은 일본의 전통적인 카페 문화를 뜻하는 말로 사람들이 조용하고 차분한 분위기 속에서 커피나 차, 그리고 간단한 식사나 디저트를 즐기는 공간입니다. 제가 킷사텐을 좋아하는 가장 큰 이유는 유행을 따르는 곳이라기보다, 함께하는 사람들과 편안하게 시간을 보내는 데 더 집중하는 공간처럼 느껴지기 때문입니다.
고심 끝에 친구들과 다양한 메뉴들을 골랐습니다. 겨울한정메뉴인 딸기크림파르페, 푸딩아라모드, 밀크티, 그리고 모플안미츠를 주문했어요. 이중에서 가장 기억에 남는건 개인적으로 정말 특이한 디저트라고 생각했던 모플안미츠입니다. 떡을 와플처럼 구운 디저트 위에 아이스크림, 흑당시럽, 팥앙꼬, 여러 토핑과 섞어먹는 디저트입니다.
개인적으로 일본 문화를 진심으로 좋아하는 사람으로서 카페 델문도는 정말 일본 분위기를 제대로 잘 표현했기에 뜻깊게 느껴지는 곳입니다. 한국에서 킷사텐 감성을 이렇게 자연스럽게 표현할 수 있는 카페들은 정말 몇 없다고 생각합니다. 디저트 맛도 매우 훌륭했지만 무엇보다 좋았던 것은 공통 관심사를 나눌 수 있는 친구들과 갈 수 있었기 때문이었던 것 같습니다.

Because we wanted to continue our talk a bit more, we entered Napor Napor, a cafe one of the friends recommended. Apparently, this cafe is run by the owner of the anime merch shop next door, and I later found out that this cafe is known as an “otaku-friendly cafe.”
The moment we walked in, we could see that the walls were filled with anime merch, mainly figures, which I recognized most of the characters. For me, this made the space feel instantly familiar. As we sat down, we ordered three cream sodas: melon soda, ichigo (strawberry) soda, and blue soda.
Just to briefly introduce, colorful cream sodas originally come from Japanese cafe culture, but over time they've become closely tied to anime-themed cafes. Since they often appear in anime scenes, many fans connect them with feelings of everyday comfort, making cream sodas one of the most popular drinks from modern Japanese culture.
The taste of soda in Napor Napor reminded me so much of the sodas I had in Japan, and the atmosphere made it even better.
친구들과 조금 더 이야기를 나누고 싶어서 친구의 추천으로 나폴나폴이라는 카페에 들어가게 되었습니다. 알고보니 옆에 애니 굿즈 가게 사장님이 운영하시는 곳이었고 오타쿠 친화 카페로 유명했습니다.
카페에 들어가자마자 벽면을 가득채운 애니굿즈들, 특히 많은 피규어들이 눈에 들어왔습니다. 제가 아는 캐릭터들도 많이 보여서 공간이 굉장히 친숙하게 느껴졌어요. 자리를 잡으면서 음료 3잔을 시켰습니다. 소다 3종으로 메론소다, 이치고 (딸기) 소다, 그리고 블루 소다를 주문했습니다.
오타쿠 문화와 소다의 연결점을 짧게 설명하자면, 이런 컬러풀한 크림 소다들은 원래 일본 카페 문화에서 시작되었지만, 시간이 지나면서 애니 카페와 자연스럽게 이어지게 되었습니다. 애니메이션 장면에서도 자주 등장하다 보니, 많은 팬들에게는 일상의 편안함을 보여주는 음료로 생각되기도 한다고 합니다.
나폴나폴에서 마신 소다는 일본에서 마셨던 소다와 정말 비슷한 맛이었고, 그 분위기까지 더해져 더 좋게 느껴졌습니다.
Moments of sharing things we love with people we care about always feel special for me. After that day, I felt ready to focus on studying again. We went home, promising to meet once more during spring break! Can't wait for spring break to come!
좋아하는 사람들과 좋아하는걸 먹으면서 보내는 이 순간들이 너무 소중하다고 다시 한 번 느끼게 되는 그런 날이었습니다. 신나게 놀았으니 공부도 열심히 할 수 있을 것 같았어요! 나중에 봄방학때 다시 한번 모이기로 약속했습니다! 봄방학이 정말 기다려지네요!
